The Theater der Nacht (Theatre of the Night) takes the audience on a journey to the land of puppets.

At the edge of the Harz, in Lower-Saxony’s Northeim, is the Theater der Nacht – a puppet theatre which is already something quite peculiar even from the outside. If you look closer, you will notice that the roof is, in fact, a dragon’s head, and there are also various noses and spikes.

In 2001, the two puppeteers Ruth and Heiko Brockhausen settled down in this dragon-guise building after years of touring. They provide a puppet theatre to the region that is somewhat unique in Germany. Each year, 120 events take place, such as the festival ‘Mit Hand und Fuss’, presenting puppet shows for any age group from 26 August until 04 September 2022. Exciting and partly international guest performances enthuse both locals and guests from afar. Fans travel the entire country to see the art of puppeteering in ‘their’ dragon building. The theatre’s association counts around 1,000 members nationally.

This autumn, you can enjoy the premiere of Die wilde Reise durch die Nacht, by Walter Moers, in the dragon building.

Willkommen im Theater der Nacht

Das Theater der Nacht lädt zu einer Reise ins Land der Figuren ein.

Am Harzrand im südniedersächsichen Northeim liegt das Theater der Nacht: Ein Figurentheater, das bereits von weitem neugierige Blicke auf sich zieht. Bei genauerer Betrachtung bemerkt man, dass das Dach ein Drachenkopf ist mit weiteren Nasen und Stacheln am Gebäude.

In diesem Drachenhaus ließen sich 2001 die beiden Puppenspieler Ruth und Heiko Brockhausen nach Jahren auf Tour nieder. Sie schenkten der Region ein bundesweit einmaliges Figurentheater. Jährlich finden 120 Vorstellungen statt, wie zum Beispiel das Festival ‚Mit Hand und Fuß‘, welches vom 26. August bis zum 04. September 2022 mit Puppenspiel für jede Altersgruppe aufwartet. Spannende, zum Teil internationale Gastspiele begeistern dann ein Publikum, das sich längst über die Grenzen des Harzes hinaus erstreckt. Aus dem ganzen Bundesgebiet reisen die Fans an, um Figurenkunst in ‚ihrem‘ Drachenhaus zu erleben. Der Förderverein des Theaters hat mittlerweile knapp 1.000 Mitglieder deutschlandweit.
