First brewed some 13,000 years ago, beer has long since conquered the world.

Breweries, like the microbrewery Stiär Biär (Swiss for ‘Bull Beer’) in Altdorf in canton Uri, continue this triumphal march that has progressed through the ages and constantly strive to improve the quality of beer.

Pure mountain spring water, grain from local farmers, herbs from the nearby mountain region, passion and knowledge – these are the ingredients of the award-winning Uri beers. “Stiär Biär is a craft beer. Handmade, unique and untamable. Our beers are tastier, fuller-bodied, smoother, and more pleasant than conventional, mass-produced beer. One could almost say a little bit more personal. Stiär Biär is naturally cloudy and unfiltered; meaning we leave the goodness in our beers,” stresses director Urs Wagner.

Stiär Biär brews classics such as the wheat beer ‘Äs Weizä’, which won the Swiss Beer Award 2019/20, the India Pale Ale ‘Äs Hopfigs’, or the fruity, lemony shandy ‘Äs Panasch’, which won the same award in 2022. Speciality beers such as ‘Äs Nesslä’, a nettle beer, or the alcohol-free ‘Äs Sportlichs’, are not merely bold beer creations. “With our range of beers, we show the potential of the art of brewing, explore the boundaries, maybe even push them a little further, thus opening up wholly new worlds and cultures of beer.”

Einzigartig und unbezähmbar

Stiär Biär braut Klassiker wie das mit dem Swiss Beer Award 2019/20 ausgezeichnete Hefeweizen ‚Äs Wäizä’, das India Pale Ale ‚Äs Hopfig‘ oder das 2022 ebenfalls prämierte fruchtig-zitronige Panaché ‚Äs Panasch’. Spezialbiere wie das Brennesselbier ‚Äs Nesslä’ oder das alkoholfreie ‚Äs Sportlichs’ sind nicht nur mutige Bierkreationen. „Wir zeigen mit unserem Sortiment die Möglichkeiten der Bierbraukunst, loten die Grenzen aus, verschieben sie vielleicht auch ein wenig. Und eröffnen so ganz neue Bierwelten und -kulturen.”
