“Every couple deserves more than just photos. They deserve the best memories that will last a lifetime with pictures that stand out from the crowd,” explains Katarina Lima, a photographer with a remarkable story.

Before she started working as a wedding photographer, Katarina spent over a decade as an art director in Hamburg’s top advertising agencies. She perfected the art of fashion, portrait and architectural photography – skills that are now the hallmark of her unique photographs.

“I had reached a point where I had to ask myself, ‘What do I want to leave behind?’” she recalls. “Advertising didn’t feel like the answer. Wedding photography, on the other hand, allows me to create a meaningful gift that people can cherish forever.”

Creating emotional memories

“I have a deep fear of forgetting moments,” Katarina admits. “That’s why I’m passionate about preserving them. Not just as snapshots, but as memories that the couple and their family can treasure for a long time.” This dedication shines through in every photo. “I capture emotions, relationships and fleeting details. When couples look at their photos and say, ‘This feels like us,’ I know I’ve done my job well.”

The magic of weddings

What keeps Katarina energised is the unpredictability of weddings. “No two weddings are the same,” she says. “I just love the variety of my job: observing, documenting and capturing moments that people didn’t even know were happening.”

Her approach is both artistic and technical. “Weddings challenge me to excel. You’re working in constantly changing settings: natural and artificial light, candid moments, and formal portraits. You have to adapt instantly because some moments are unique and can’t be repeated.” This kind of precision and dedication is evident in Katarina’s portfolio, a blend of timeless elegance and authentic emotion. “My style is all about creating images that are alive, genuine and classic. I want these photos to be just as beautiful decades from now.”

More than a photographer

Katarina’s clients often describe her as their ‘best friend for a day.’ She sees herself as an integral part of the celebration. “I have an in-depth conversation with the couple and make sure to connect with their families and friends on the big day. Building that connection helps me to capture truly authentic moments.”

Recording these moments is hard work. “It may look like the photos come easily, but behind the scenes, it’s all about detailed planning and years of experience.” Fortunately, her clients don’t have to wait long to see the results of her work: “In today’s fast-paced, social media-driven world, couples want to share their memories immediately. So I work on the images the same night. By the next day, my clients have a gallery of 100 edited photos ready to enjoy.”

Emotion over perfection

When asked what sets her apart, Katarina laughs and says, “Emotion over perfection – that’s my philosophy. I’ve seen some colleagues get lost in the technicalities of their equipment while important moments pass by. Of course, I have high technical standards, but I never let that overshadow the heart of the story.”

Her clients appreciate her ability to balance artistry with empathy. “I understand that most couples aren’t professional models. My aim is to guide them gently and make them feel at ease. The result? Portraits that look natural and beautiful, not staged or stiff.”

The aesthetics

Katarina works with couples who want their wedding photos to reflect a modern, sophisticated aesthetic. “Many of my clients are afraid of overly posed, cheesy photos,” she explains. “I promise them photos that feel fun and relaxed.” One couple chose her specifically because of the joyful energy in her portfolio. “They said my photos radiated happiness and lightness, which was exactly what they wanted for their day.”

One of Katarina’s most memorable weddings took place across two different countries. “The ceremony was held at the stunning Notre Dame du Luxembourg, where the church remained open to visitors. As the bride walked down the aisle, crowds of tourists gathered, creating an atmosphere that felt almost royal. Later that afternoon, the celebrations continued across the border in Belgium at the breathtaking Château du Bois d’Arlon. It was an unforgettable 14-hour day that produced unique photographs.”

Beyond the camera

Katarina’s commitment extends far beyond the wedding day. “I want my clients to feel cared for every step of the way,” she says. From pre-wedding consultations to personalised tips, she ensures that every detail is handled with care. “I’m there for my clients in every way. It’s about more than just pictures. It’s about creating an experience they will never forget.”

For Katarina, wedding photography is not just a career, it’s a calling. “At the end of the day, I’m not just taking photos, I’m preserving love stories and turning them into art and family heirlooms. And that’s the most rewarding thing I could ever do.”
