From a village smithy to a think tank

The company Interstuhl, with its three brands Interstuhl, Bimos and Backforce, has become one of the largest and most competent manufacturers of office chairs and office landscapes in Europe. Still to this day the company, founded in 1961, is family-run. The founding history of Interstuhl Büromöbel GmbH & Co.KG can be considered a little bit unusual, because it started in a little blacksmith’s shop in Meßstetten-Tieringen in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. When the two blacksmiths and founders Wilhelm and Werner Link developed their first chair – the Bi-Regulette – they were looking for a solution to make the everyday life of seamstresses easier. More than 50 million chairs later, this is still one of the core values of the 850-strong company.

Von der Dorfschmiede zur Ideenschmiede

Das Unternehmen Interstuhl mit den drei Marken Interstuhl, Bimos und Backforce hat sich inzwischen zu einem der größten und kompetentesten Hersteller von Bürostühlen und Bürolandschaften in Europa entwickelt. Dabei ist das 1961 gegründete Unternehmen bis heute familiengeführt. Die Gründungsgeschichte der Interstuhl Büromöbel GmbH & Co.KG ist tatsächlich ein klein wenig ungewöhnlich, denn sie nahm ihren Ausgang in einer Hufschmiede im baden-württembergischen Meßstetten-Tieringen. Als die beiden Hufschmiede und Firmengründer Wilhelm und Werner Link ihren ersten Bürostuhl – den Bi-Regulette – entwarfen, waren sie auf der Suche nach einer Lösung, die den Arbeitsalltag der Näherinnen in der Textilproduktion erleichtert. Über 50 Millionen Stühle später ist das noch immer eines der Kernziel des 850-mitarbeiterstarken Unternehmens.
