International School of Düsseldorf: Educating the next generation of global innovators
Text: Elisabeth Döhne
The International School of Düsseldorf has a proud, fifty-year old tradition of providing an innovative, holistic education so that all students can be successful and responsible in an evolving world.
“We deliver an outstanding education that prepares our students to be successful and inspires them to make a difference; an education that will equip them with the skills and aptitudes to tackle the global challenges they will face,” explains Frank Tschan, ISD’s Acting Director.
Currently, close to 1,000 students from 55 countries are enrolled in the school. The dedicated, international faculty (150 educators from 24 different countries) use innovative teaching strategies, technology in the classroom and learning approaches that foster student success and wellbeing. All students are encouraged to become creative, independent and compassionate thinkers.
The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum throughout all of their classes, from preschool through grade 12; the IB Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. The school also offers extensive sports and activities, a wide selection of cultural, creative and physical after-school and special, interest activities, and private music lessons.
The unique culture found at ISD is due in part to the school’s long-standing relationship with Düsseldorf and the global education community. Düsseldorf, the capital of Nordrhein Westfalen, is an international hub and a place where people are generous and open to all.
“We inspire global learners with the goal of creating a lifelong passion for learning,” Mr. Tschan says. “We provide an education that is internationally focused and supports students and families wherever they may go.”
