A special day enhanced by mountain panorama

Weddings are always beautiful events, by their very nature – but they’re even better when the right locations are used. We heartily suggest thinking about heading to Switzerland for yours. Why? We give you four good reasons for travelling to this mountainous country for your special day.

Switzerland is known for its breathtaking panoramic views, great cuisine, quaint villages and hip city centres – a perfect combination for contributing to a beautiful wedding. You can get married on a mountain top, or at a lake, in a forest, in a castle, in a historic building or a gorgeous chapel, or even in a beautiful meadow: take your pick! Here, we go deeper into the four main reasons why Switzerland is the next top European wedding destination.

1. Breathtaking views

Nobody can deny that Switzerland boasts some of the most gorgeous views in Europe. For weddings, this means that summer nuptials can be held in the lush outdoors while admiring the stunning mountaintops. Or, choose one of the many excellent restaurants with panoramic views for your wedding dinner.

2. Top-class cuisine

Switzerland’s culinary offerings go far beyond cheese and chocolate (even though you should still opt for these at your Swiss wedding, of course). Many restaurants all over the country put special emphasis on local ingredients and regional cuisine with a modern twist which makes for an exciting menu for wedding guests. Of course, the wine offerings aren’t bad either, as Switzerland has been growing wine since Roman times, so you can be sure that it’s going to be very tasty indeed.

3. Fun traditions

If you are thinking about a more fun take on your wedding, we suggest implementing some fun Swiss wedding traditions. An example is the ‘log sawing’ or ‘Baumstamm sägen’. This describes a tradition where the bride and groom saw a piece of wood together, which symbolically shows what two people can achieve by working together.

4. Every season works

Planning a wedding in Switzerland doesn’t mean that you will have to have it in summer, as there’s much to do and plenty to opt for, whatever season you choose. In the spring, summer and autumn, guests can indulge in hiking and walking, while the hotter months in particular pose as the perfect backdrop for swimming in the ice-cold, blue mountain lakes. In winter, of course, you can expect snow-filled activities like skiing or snowboarding, and romantic views across white mountains are a given. What’s not to love?
