Eve: Easier, safer and more private

I magine a home in which your devices and appliances work together and make your life easier. The connected-home idea has been around for a while, but conventional smart home products can often be cumbersome. Eve changes this.

Eve Systems has always understood how to recognise trends and developments at an early stage. “That was the case with our gaming brand Elgato, and it`s the case again with our connected home accessories – in any case, the Eve family has recorded double-digit growth annually since its start,” smiles Lars Felber, Eve’s director of PR.

Eve’s connected-home products have a significant advantage: they do not need a hub, a registration or a connection to some proprietary cloud service. Felber explains: “Thanks to Bluetooth, it directly communicates with the iPhone or the control centre. An Eve cloud doesn’t exist; communication between accessories and the Apple device runs directly or across the Apple iCloud service – in both cases, end-to-end encrypted. Easier because no network configuration. Cheaper because no starter pack. Safer and more private because no manufacturer cloud.”

And what does this mean concretely? It results in products such as the elegant weather station Eve Degree, for example, and the connected radiator valve Eve Thermo, which controls room temperatures and saves energy when no one is home, or Eve Room, the popular wireless indoor sensor which will get a new design with e-Ink display and integrated battery just in time for the IFA. The latest product is no less impressive: the smart water controller Eve Aqua, which automatically activates the sprinkler or activates your irrigation from anywhere.

Die Smart Home Produkte der Eve-Serie haben einen wesentlichen Vorteil: Sie benötigen kein Hub und keine Registrierung bei einem herstellereigenen Cloud-Service. Felber erklärt: „Dank Bluetooth spricht ein Eve-Produkt direkt mit dem iPhone oder der Steuerzentrale, also einem HomePod oder einem Apple TV. Eine Eve-Cloud gibt es nicht, die Kommunikation zwischen Zubehör und Apple-Gerät läuft direkt oder als Fernzugriff über Apples iCloud-Service ab, in beiden Fällen Ende-zu-Ende-verschlüsselt. Einfacher, da ohne Netzwerkkonfiguration. Billiger, da ohne Starter Pack. Sicherer und privater, da ohne Herstellercloud.“

Und was bedeutet dies konkret? Zum Beispiel die elegante Wetterstation Eve Degree, der Heizkörperthermostat Eve Thermo, der die Raumtemperatur nach Benutzerwünschen steuert und bei Abwesenheit Energie spart oder Eve Room, der populäre Raumklima-Monitor, der rechtzeitig zur IFA in einem überarbeiteten Design mit e-Ink-Display und eingebauter Batterie erscheinen wird. Das jüngste Produkt ist nicht weniger beeindruckend: Die smarte Bewässerungssteuerung Eve Aqua aktiviert den Rasensprenger automatisch oder steuert Bewässerungssysteme von unterwegs.
