C urrently, plastic surgery is experiencing a real boom in Europe, and particularly in Switzerland. It’s becoming more and more socially acceptable, and also more young people are increasingly making use of it, explains Dr. med. Dominik Schmid. In 2011, Dr. med. Dominik Schmid took over the Practice for Plastic, Aesthetic Surgery in St. Gallen. The demanding surgical work, the field’s diversity and the innovative developments of this surgical discipline continue to fascinate him.

“I perform around 150 to 200 breast operations each year,” he explains. “We also specialise in eyelid lifts, face liftings and abdominoplasty.”

Today, many procedures are possible with minimally invasive methods and, particularly in the anti-aging sector, the trend goes towards doing less but more regularly. Dr. Schmid adds: “Thanks to new methods such as thread lifting for the face and breast augmentation using the patient’s body fat, we can offer the popular option of effective, gentle and natural-looking changes.”

Plastische Chirurgie wird salonfähig

Die Plastische Chirurgie erlebt derzeit in der Schweiz und in Europa eine Phase der Hochkonjunktur. 2011 übernahm Dr. med. Dominik Schmid die Praxis für Plastische, Ästhetische Chirurgie in St. Gallen. Dabei sind es vor allem die anspruchsvolle chirurgische Tätigkeit, die Vielseitigkeit des Gebietes und die innovative Entwicklung dieser chirurgischen Disziplin, die ihn immer wieder faszinieren.

Viele Eingriffe sind heute mit minimal invasiven Techniken möglich und gerade im Anti Aging-Bereich geht der Trend in Richtung weniger, aber regelmäßig. Dr. Schmid fügt hinzu: „Neuere Methoden wie zum Beispiel das Fadenlifting im Gesichtsbereich oder die Brustvergrößerung mittels Eigenfett bieten bei uns eine gefragte Möglichkeit für eine effektive, schonende und natürlich anmutende Veränderung.“
