Hello 2023! A brand-new year full of opportunities lies ahead, so let’s start it in style. Enjoy a New Year’s concert, watch some contemporary dance or kickstart those New Year’s resolutions with a fun marathon across Berlin. January has a lot on offer, with the right event for everyone.

NEW YEAR’S CONCERT, VIENNA (1 JANUARY)

This New Year’s Concert is the undisputed, official highlight of the new year in the DACH region, presented by the world-famous Wiener Philharmoniker. It is broadcasted in 90 countries and, naturally, it has been one of the most beloved events in all of Austria for a very long time now. This year it is under the baton of Maestro Franz Welser-Möst and held in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.

TOUCH THE MOUNTAINS, INTERLAKEN (1 JANUARY)

This free-of-charge open-air concert in Interlaken is a fantastic way to welcome the new year and is now in its 18th edition. Various well-known bands fill the streets and venues of the city with music and good vibes all around. A particular highlight is the firework display in front of the Alpine background.

NEW YEAR’S MARATHON, BERLIN(1 JANUARY)

This year marks the 50th edition of this special marathon in Germany’s capital. Getting up and running while our New Year’s resolutions are still fresh, and our motivation is still high, is certainly a good idea. With no races or competitions, this marathon is all about participating, and offers a wonderful route from the Brandenburg Gate to the Berlin Cathedral.

TANZTAGE, BERLIN (5 – 21 JANUARY)

The so-called ‘Tanztage’ (which translates to ‘Days of Dance’) is now in its 32nd edition, focusing on contemporary dance. This year it’s all about the theme ‘urgency culture’ and reflects on how we move to the rhythm of today’s high-speed, social media-driven reality. It’s a great hotspot for young dancers and new choreographers. As always, the event will be held at Sophiensaele.

71ST FOUR HILLS TOURNAMENT, BISCHOFSHOFEN (6 JANUARY)

Each year, over 25,000 ski enthusiasts come to cheer on the world’s champions during the much-anticipated final of the prestigious Four Hill Tournament in Bischofshofen. Wrap up warm and see who will win the golden eagle trophy this year.

TOURISMA & CARAVANING, MAGDEBURG (6 – 8 JANUARY)

If you are longing for a holiday, this is the place to get inspired for new adventures. The trade fair Tourisma & Caravaning showcases this year’s holiday trends – in Germany and abroad. A special focus this year is on e-bikes and pedelecs.

TRENDSET, MUNICH (7 – 9 JANUARY)

The TrendSet fair in Munich is a must for all interior designers, professional buyers and home decor fans. Its site measures 100,000 square metres, divided into three different themes. Each year, the TrendSet attracts around 35,000 visitors who are keen to discover new trends.

INTERNATIONAL DOLOMITENLAUF, LIENZ (20 – 22 JANUARY)

This is a true highlight for all the sports lovers out there. Austria’s largest and most important cross-country skiing event is a real gem – particularly if you enjoy a breathtaking snowy background. This year’s edition celebrates the 53rd anniversary and yet again it is open to both amateurs and professionals.
