Dive into April’s adventures: From cinematic highlights in Graz to thrilling rollercoaster rides in Berlin, and cherry blossoms painting the city pink, this month is bursting with excitement. Level up for marathons, revel in art, and celebrate spring traditions across the DACH region.
DIAGONALE FESTIVAL OF AUSTRIAN FILM, GRAZ (4 – 9 APRIL)
This film festival is dedicated to Austrian film productions. Around 30,000 visitors come to Graz each year to see the newest develop- ments in the world of film. It is also a forum for discussion and hence a great platform for filmmakers of all levels to mingle and network.
BERLIN HALF MARATHON (7 APRIL)
Have you ever heard of ‘the fastest sightseeing tour in sneakers’? That’s how some describe this city’s half marathon, famously attracting over 30,000 enthusiastic participants annually. Welcoming runners, wheelchair users, and inline skaters alike, it’s more than just a race – it’s an event filled with excitement, even for those cheering from the sidelines.

SECHSELÄUTEN SPRING FESTIVAL, ZURICH (12 – 15 APRIL)
This Swiss celebration mirrors the American tradition of predicting weather with a groundhog, but with a different twist: a snowman effigy, known as ‘Böögg’, is perched atop a bonfire. Its role is to predict the upcoming summer’s weather. The quicker the flames engulf the ‘Böögg’, the warmer the summer is forecasted to be. The event unfolds over a special weekend, filled with various events, festivities, and traditional balls, making it a unique cultural experience.
CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL, BERLIN (13 – 14 APRIL)
The arrival of spring is heralded by the burst of cherry blossoms, transforming our surroundings with their pastel pink hues. The Gärten der Welt in Berlin’s Marzahn district becomes a spectacle during the festival that honours these magnificent Japanese cherry blossoms. Each year, approximately 25,000 visitors gather to celebrate the onset of spring amidst breathtaking views.
57TH SPRING FUN FAIR, MUNICH (19 APRIL – 5 MAY)
A sea of pretzels greets you at the ‘Frühlings- fest’, Germany’s traditional spring fair and the smaller counterpart to the famous Oktober- fest, complete with two large beer tents. Let loose, revel in the fun, and explore over 100 rides and attractions.

MARATHON, ZURICH (21 APRIL)
Are your running shoes waiting to make a comeback? No matter your fitness level, the Zurich marathon promises a lovely course that weaves alongside Lake Zurich and through the picturesque city centre. It’s an excellent chance to commence the marathon season, and it’s recognised as a standout event on the international marathon calendar for a reason.
GALLERY WEEKEND BERLIN (26 – 28 APRIL)
The Gallery Weekend Berlin is one of the leading events for contemporary art in Ger- many, offering a tour through Berlin’s creative scene. With about 50 participating galleries and approximately 80 international and national artists, Gallery Weekend records significant success each year and has developed into a high-sales date in the art market.
SPRING FUN FAIR AT KURT-SCHUMACHER- DAMM, BERLIN (30 MARCH – 13 MAY)
Rollercoasters and German treats as far as the eye can see. The capital welcomes visitors to enjoy the milder temperatures and jump on a speedy ride. The best time for families to explore the fun fair is on Wednesdays, as all rides are half-price then. Candyfloss and rollercoasters? Yes, please!
