Taste the difference
Germany’s culinary scene is one of the world’s best – for many reasons. Not only does the country sport many award-winning chefs and restaurants, the restaurant diversity in the country is also one of a kind.
Whether you happen to be in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg or a small village in the west of the country, Germany has a lot to offer when it comes to food and restaurants. The Michelin Guide Germany 2019, for example, announced five new two-star restaurants and a whopping 37 new one-star restaurants in the country. In total, the guide recommends 38 restaurants with two stars this year, while ten three-star restaurants and 261 one-star restaurants were included in 2019. All in all, this amounts to 309 Michelin-starred restaurants in Germany.
Have you heard of Bib Gourmand?
A Bib Gourmand is also awarded by Michelin’s team of inspectors to restaurants that are considered of good quality and good value. In fact, restaurants can only get a Bib Gourmand when they offer a menu that serves three courses for a maximum of 37 euros. In 2019, inspectors have awarded 39 new restaurants with a Bib Gourmand, each one impressing with good quality, as well as good value. In total, 424 restaurants received a Big Gourmand in 2019 in Germany.
Gwendal Poullennec, the Michelin Guides international director, said: “This 2019 selection confirms the ongoing positive progress of German gastronomy. This success is due to both the existing guard of well-established and experienced chefs, as well as a new generation of young and talented chefs with their innovative and fresh ideas.”
