Arabella Brauneck Hotel: Bavaria as picturesque as a picture book: Ski fun and relaxation in the foothills of the Alps
Text: Jessica Holzhausen
The region of Brauneck-Wegscheid is an ideal setting for winter sports enthusiasts: the Arabella Brauneck Hotel is the perfect gateway for guests to explore the winter landscape of the Alpine foothills, while the local Brauneck Bergbahn mountain railway takes guests up to the slopes. The ski school of Michi Gerg offers lessons by a real professional: the owner and manager is a multiple-time German ski champion and former Olympic competitor.
The ski area of Brauneck, in the Upper-Bavarian Lenggries, is not a place of superlatives: “We neither have the highest mountains, nor the most snow canons and also not the noisiest après ski parties,” says Antonia Asenstorfer, head of communications and marketing at the Brauneck- and Wallbergbahn. “But what we can offer our guests are quaint log cabins and pastures, charming hospitality on the slopes and beyond – and, of course, the fabulous landscape of the Bavarian Alpine foothills under a white-blue sky.”
Learning how to ski and snowboard – guided by a professional
One of the most renowned ski schools in the area belongs to former professional ski racer Michi Gerg and lies directly at the valley station of the Brauneck Bergbahn mountain railway. Here, children and adults alike can learn and practise in small groups of a maximum of six people – guided by a real ski champion. “Brauneck is an ideal ski resort for families,” says Michi Gerg. “We offer great opportunities for all abilities, from easier blue slopes to medium-complex red slopes.” There are also a few black slopes. “They give children the chance to tackle even the toughest challenges without any stress.”
A dedicated practise area for children provides a safe environment to learn
Beginners will find ideal conditions in the 10,000-square-metre-large and secure ‘Kinderland’, an area especially set up for the needs of children, with a lot of tools and aids suitable for younger skiers. “Our flat beginners area is ideal to familiarise oneself and play with skis in the snow for the very first time: the magic carpet with a gentle slope allows kids to practise how to slow down and stop, and at the rope lift, they can make their first curves around funny figures,” Michi Gerg explains.
Classes for adults and fun activities
Above that, the ski school offers diverse classes for adults. Next to downhill ski and snowboard courses, this also includes softer winter tourism options. Many people will find relaxation while cross-country skiing or hiking with snowshoes. The according equipment can be rented directly on site from the ski school.
Bavarian cosiness and a break after a long day on the slope
The Arabella Brauneck Hotel in Lenggries is the ideal accommodation for winter sports guests in the amazing winter landscape of the Alpine foothills. The valley station of the ski region Brauneck and Lenggries lies practically at the hotel’s doorstep. The four-star hotel convinces with cosy rooms in a typical country house style, a restaurant, a cocktail bar and sauna area for relaxation. Family and friends will get to experience a lot of fun with leisure time activities, not only in the new ski cellar, but also in the in-house ‘Kegelbahn’, a German version of bowling. Heartfelt hospitality makes the Arabella Brauneck Hotel the number one address in the region.
