One of the award-winning architectural office’s main focus points lies on developing cities in a way that will fulfil the requirements of future generations. Above that, it is important to create an ambitious, architectural quality and make sure the project management is efficient concerning costs and timeframe. “We want an innovative access to architecture, a kind of universal design, so that all future users will profit from it,” says architect Albert Wimmer about the company’s philosophy. “Luxury for everyone, not only for those parts of society that can afford it. That mainly affects housing but also buildings in the health sector, infrastructure buildings, sport stadiums and cultural buildings.”

Success on a national and international level

The architectural quality is reflected in the success achieved. In October 2001, for example, a two-stage architectural competition was announced for the all-encompassing renewal of the Nyugati railway station in Budapest. Among the participants was the ‘who’s-who’ of renowned architectural offices like Foster + Partner, Zaha Hadid Architects, Kengo Kuma & Associates and Benthem Crouwel Architects. During the selection process, Albert Wimmer ZT-GmbH was able to convince with outstanding train station projects, like the Vienna main station and the Vienna Praterstern, and was thereby awarded.

At the moment, Wimmer and his creative team also work on a paediatric clinic in Freiburg in Germany, that will open its doors in 2023.

Einer der Schwerpunkte des preisgekrönten Architekturbüros liegt darauf, Städte so weiterzubauen, dass sie den zukünftigen Ansprüchen gerecht werden. Darüber hinaus geht es darum, eine ambitionierte, architektonische Qualität zu liefern und eine verlässliche Projektabwicklung bezüglich Kosten und Terminen zu leisten. „Wir wollen einen innovativen Zugang zur Architektur, eine Art ‚universal design‘, damit alle zukünftigen NutzerInnen zu gleichen Teilen profitieren“, sagt Architekt Albert Wimmer über die Philosophie des Unternehmens. „Luxus für alle, nicht nur für jene Teile der Gesellschaft, die es sich leisten können.“

Erfolg auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene

Die architektonische Qualität spiegelt sich auch im Erfolg: Im Oktober 2021 wurde ein internationaler zweistufiger Architekturwettbewerb für die umfassende Erneuerung des Budapester Bahnhofs „Nyugati“ und seiner Umgebung ausgeschrieben. Bei den teilnehmenden Büros handelte es sich um das „Who is Who“ der internationalen Architekturszene wie Foster + Partner, Zaha Hadid Architects, Kengo Kuma & Associates oder Benthem Crouwel Architekten. Bei dem Auswahlverfahren konnte sich auch die Albert Wimmer ZT-GmbH mit ihren herausragenden Bahnhofsprojekten, wie dem Wiener Hauptbahnhof oder dem Wiener Praterstern, erfolgreich qualifizieren und wurde als Preisträger ausgezeichnet. Momentan arbeiten Wimmer und sein kreatives Team zudem an der Kinder- und Jugendklinik Freiburg in Deutschland, die 2023 eröffnet wird.
