Einstein Haus
Today Albert Einstein is recognized as one of the most important scientists of all time. But when he came to Bern he was still at the beginning of his research, struggling to make ends meet while working on pioneering papers. Einstein’s former apartment in the Kramgasse 49, Bern, is today a site to remember this breakthrough in 1905. It is open to the public.Albert Einstein spent an essential period of his life in Bern: In February 1902 he moved there after applying for a position at the Federal Patent Office. Still unemployed until June 1902, he survived as private tutor for physics and mathematics. When he finally had a steady income, he married his girlfriend Mileva Maric in early January 1903.
