Experience the romantic charm of Bad Homburg’s Christmas market, set against the backdrop of the historic castle and its iconic ‘Weißer Turm’ tower. Ready for the festive season?

Nestled within the historic walls of Bad Homburg’s Schloss, the Christmas market offers a truly enchanting atmosphere. More than 70 beautifully decorated wooden stalls stretch from Schlossplatz to the upper and lower castle courtyards, creating a festive path filled with artisanal crafts, unique gifts and delicious treats. Beneath the iconic ‘Weißer Turm’, visitors will find stalls brimming with handmade jewellery, local artwork and seasonal culinary delights.

One of the market’s most beloved attractions is the little steam train as Nina Gerlach of Bad Homburg Tourism explains: “The charming steam train called Toni delights not only young railway fans. Below Bad Homburg’s Weißer Turm, with views of the Taunus hills, it tirelessly chugs along, puffing steam as it makes its rounds. A true ride-along experience.”

No Christmas market is complete without traditional food, but Bad Homburg’s offerings are uniquely regional. Wild boar sausages from the local Taunus forest, grilled over a wood fire, are served in freshly baked rolls, best enjoyed with a cup of ‘Posti’ punch – a warming blend featuring the locally famous Reichspost Bitter, a herbal liqueur made from an old apothecary recipe with a festive twist. Visitors can also savour winemaker’s mulled wine from German vineyards, roasted chestnuts and Italian almond pastries in endless varieties. For something heartier, the menu includes salmon burgers, tarte flambée and wood-fired roasted coffee specialities.

This year, live music fills the castle grounds every Friday and Saturday, with jazzy Santas, singing angels and even rock ‘n’ roll reindeers bringing cheer to the crowd. Nina Gerlach adds: “Christmas in Bad Homburg has many facets. A visit to the festive city centre is well worth it, with the Star Fountain, a 28-meter-high Christmas tree and a life-sized wooden nativity scene at the Kurhaus – absolutely ‚instagrammable’.”
