Vienna’s biggest culinary festival
The GenussFestival in Vienna brings tradition and innovation from all over Austria together in one place. Now in its 12th edition, the culinary festival will showcase delicious treats from 190 carefully selected manufactories and rural producers, all against the scenic backdrop of the blooming Viennese City Park.
The GenussFestival will be held at the weekend of 10 to 12 May and it promises to be a true culinary journey across Austria. This year’s motto is ‘Culinary variety of the regions’ and it’s certain that the organisers, Kuratorium Kulinarisches Erbe Österreich and stadt wien marketing, will once again deliver.
Over the past few years, the culinary festival has managed to become bigger and bigger. Today, it is one of the leading gourmet events in Austria and known far beyond the country’s borders. Regional delicacies are offered in pagoda marquees and at lovingly decorated stalls. The event turns the beautiful City Park Vienna into a giant culinary market ‘Made in Austria’ and is perfect for anyone who appreciates great food. From gourmets, families, food experts and tourists of all ages, the GenussFestival is a delightful weekend for everyone.
The culinary treats on offer range from traditional to innovative creations. Why not try something new this year? Visitors can look forward to classics such as Carinthian reindling, Nockberger zirbenwürste and Innviertler surspeck, but also plenty of new tasty creations such as Champagne rye bread from the Forest Quarter, Alpine caviar, sea buckthorn jam, cranberry black pudding and much more. A glass of bubbly or various beer specialities from Vienna complete the gourmet adventure.
Aside from trying the food, visitors can also get to know the people behind it. They can learn about the different traditional production methods and really understand the passion and history behind each dish. The vendors, who often also dress in traditional clothing, are happy to tell their stories. That kind of authenticity is a fundamental aspect of the GenussFestival.
Aside from the small manufactories, restaurateurs from all over Austria will attend, as well as the Austrian Association of Chefs, which will prepare a great range of warm dishes from Tyrolen Gröstl and Voralberg Käsknöpfle to Krautstrudel from Burgenland.
With such copious amounts of food and drink, it’s best to sample small portions to make the most of this Austrian culinary walking tour. Luckily, visitors can also buy food to stock up and eat at home.
Has all of this made you hungry yet?
