Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg

An elegant lobby, luxurious rooms and exclusive restaurants give new life to an old jewel

N ow that the renovation is nearly complete, the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg, former guesthouse of the Federal Republic of Germany, shines in new splendour. As a historic monument, it was important to keep the original features and charm while creating the modern comfort that guests expect from a hotel of this class.

The historic Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg has been a prestige object of the Steigenberger Hotels AG for 28 years now. From the top of the Petersberg, guests have a perfect view over the villages of Königswinter, Oberdollendorf, Bonn, towards the Drachenfels and the Rhine river valley. For a long time, the building has been in the centre of international politics: many famous politicians, royals, stars and starlets have stayed here over the years. The hotel has therefore always been in the public eye and guests’ expectations are accordingly high. Therefore, the Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (BimA), who took over the building in 2013, invested no less than 35 million euros into the refurbishment.

The room capacity was extended from 99 to 112 rooms: among them, are 102 double rooms, nine suites and the president’s suite made up of 230 square metres. All rooms now have a modern interior and the restaurants and public areas have been refurbished as well. The lobby, for example, features fine woods and fabrics as well as elegant carpets – appropriate for a grand hotel. Art enthusiasts will be inspired by the artworks of Bernd Schwarzer, Horst Kordes, Markus Tollmann and Rudolf Hürth.

The 112 refurbished rooms and suites are elegant and luxurious and can be booked with views either over the park or the Rhine valley.

In the hotel’s kitchen, head chef Alexander Fries creates light and creative menus and puts great emphasis on quality and regional products. Guests will find space to dine in Bill’s Restaurant & Grill, named after Bill Clinton, and in Charles Bistro & Café that convinces diners with French and local specialities. The name of the Bistro honours the French president Charles de Gaulle, who in 1962, dined on the Petersberg. Ferdinand Wine & Dine surprises guests with dishes from wine regions all over the world, and in summer, the terrace convinces with a Mediterranean flair.

For a quick aperitif, a snack and hors d’oeuvres, the Vinothek Wine & Champagne offers the ideal surroundings. The culinary experience is completed by the Davidoff Smokers Lounge, the Salon ‘Konrad Adenauer’ and the Nelson’s Bar & Lounge, serving cocktails, spirits and international coffee specialities. The bar is named after Nelson Mandela, who visited the Petersberg in 1996.
